The lectures will take place at the Institut für Biologie, Invalidenstr. 42, 10115 Berlin, Germany.
The building [Mittelbau (Neubau) - Biophysik] is located very near to the Museum für Naturkunde and it's right in the middle of the city. Once you are in front of the Museum, you can go through the gate at the right of the museum building and walk along the pathway for 50 meters until you reach the only modern (and ugly) building of the whole complex. You'll find signs there to point you to the lecture hall. Here is a map for your convenience:
The lectures will take place in Room 312 (third floor, first door to your right). We are going to have WLAN there, but we are not going to have cable connection. You are welcome to take your laptop with you, but be aware that all programming will be done on our equipment, which has all required tools and libraries pre-installed.
Regarding accommodation, a google map search for "hotel" nearby the summer school venue returns many hits, including some youth hostels for those travelling on a budget or in search of a younger night life If you are willing to walk a little, we can recommend the Circus Hostel. It is a nice youth hostel, which additionally offers single rooms. It is located in the middle of a very lively neighborhood and it is a 20 minutes walk to the school venue.
To plan your trip from the airport/train station to the hotel/school venue, you may refer to the site of the Berlin Public Transport Company (BVG) As a start location you can use the code “SXF” for Schönefeld airport, the code “TXL” for Tegel airport, and the code “Berlin, HBF” for Berlin central train station (Hauptbahnhof). You'll need to buy a “Berlin AB/Einzelfahrschein” (2.10 €) if traveling from TXL or HBF, or a “Berlin ABC/Einzelfahrschein” (2.80 €) if traveling from SXF.
If you plan to come by car, keep in mind that parking is subject to a relatively high fee in Berlin Mitte (from 0.25 to 0.5 cents for 15 minutes) and I don't think it is at all possible to leave the car parked for a long time. Permits are only given to residents. Inside the campus we don't get any parking place (it has to be requested to the university management and it is accorded only if you are an employee). Depending where are you planning to sleep, it may be that the hotel has some private parking place, or that your hotel is outside of the paying area: have a look here to find out [we are located in City-Ost, Mitte]. It may be cheaper to find some private parking place though. I can't help you in this respect because I never drive to work . You'll need for sure a green Umweltplakette, because we are right in the middle of the Umweltzone.
